2016 Citizens Police Academy

The Martin Police Department is now accepting applications for members of the 27th Session of the Citizen’s Police Academy. This session is scheduled to begin March 9th, 2017.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is a chance for citizens that live or work in the Martin area to get a first hand view of the operations of the Martin Police Department. When someone graduates from the Citizen’s Police Academy they are not certified as a police officer, but will have a better understanding of what police officers face everyday. The class will meet one night a week for ten weeks. Instruction will include use of force, undercover drug operations, crime scene investigation, DUI enforcement, criminal law, firearms, and other areas.

Also during the ten week class the participants will be required to ride with a Martin Police Officer at least two times, with one of the ride-alongs to be between the hours of 10:00 pm and 2:00 am. Over 500 citizens have graduated from the Citizen’s Police Academy Program since its inception in 1993.

Cost is only $20.00 which includes purchase of a session shirt.

Applications will be accepted until February 12th, 2017 or until the class is filled. If you would like more information about the Citizen’s Police Academy please contact Captain Phillip Fuqua at (731)-587-5355 ext. 241.
